May 12 marked the first day of IDN Media's venture into the film industry. It launched IDN Pictures - after acquiring Demi Istri Production, an independent film company. Demi Istri Production was founded in 2013 by director Fajar Nugros and producer Susanti Dewi, both of whom will be leading IDN Pictures. Through the acquisition, IDN Media aims to support and grow the Indonesian film industry.
“Through IDN Pictures, we want to continue our commitment to our vision: to democratize information and to become a one-stop content platform for millennials and gen Z. I am very excited to work together with Fajar Nugros and Susanti Dewi. I am confident and optimistic that under the leadership of Fajar and Susanti, IDN Pictures can become the leading film company in Indonesia that will bring positive impacts and inspiration to the society,” Founder & CEO of IDN Media, Winston Utomo, said in a statement.
Fajar and Dewi added that they “already have several films in the pipeline and we are very much looking forward to releasing them in the near future.” Both Fajar and Dewi have been producing and directing several films, such as Raditya Dika’s novel adaptation Cinta Brontosaurus (2013), Moammar Emka’s Jakarta Undercover (2017), and Terbang: Menembus Langit (2018).
IDN Media was founded in 2014 by siblings William Utomo and Winston Utomo. Next to the newly-launched IDN Pictures, IDN Media currently operates several multiple units, from digital media: news and entertainment platform IDN Times, female media Popbela.com, parenting media Popmama.com, food-focused Yummy, esports platform GGWP.ID, geek culture-focused Duniaku.com; agencies - IDN Creative, IDN Event, IDN Creator Network, and think-tank IDN Research Institute.
In early 2019, IDN Media announced securing an undisclosed amount of series C funding led by EV Growth (a joint venture of East Ventures, Sinar Mas Group, and Yahoo! Japan), and participated by True Digital & Meria Platform (a company under Charoen Pokphand Group) and LINE Ventures.
